Publication Date:

Specifications:
Paperback / 56 pages / 19 x 26 x 0.45 cm / Partial full-color / Second edition
Book Overview:
◆ Style Features: European countryside aesthetic, expressions with a slightly melancholic temperament, and a rich sense of storytelling.
The dolls feature slightly melancholic expressions and delicate European countryside-inspired designs. Finished works resemble boutique dolls displayed in shop windows, each with its own secret story, making them irresistibly charming. This distinctive charm sets Miyama MARI’s dolls apart from common cloth dolls.
◆ Crafting Features:
In addition to the standard sewing methods for the main body, some works incorporate wire or aluminum wire into the arms and legs to enable more dynamic poses. By making the hands more detailed—wrapping aluminum wire into each of the five fingers filled with cotton—you can create lively gestures such as holding flowers or weaving!
Point 1: The head and torso are first filled with wood wool inside a silk fabric base, then covered with outer fabric, making the overall structure more solid than typical handmade dolls.
Point 2: The head is additionally wrapped with fiberfill and covered with cotton fabric to achieve a soft touch.
Point 3: The limbs are filled with cotton and, as needed, wrapped with wire to shape them.
◆ The collection includes 15 pieces divided into four main categories:
- Poseable Dolls: Filled with cotton in the arms, legs, and fingers, with wire embedded for detailed movements.
- Hugging Dolls: Basic dolls without wire reinforcement.
- Dress-up Dolls: Can be dressed in different outfits. The legs are fixed to the torso with wire, allowing for stable sitting poses.
- Small Dolls: Similar to hugging dolls but smaller in size, suitable as decorations or charms.
Using these four basic techniques, you can create various types of dolls for display, companionship, or dressing up. Each method is demonstrated with detailed step-by-step diagrams, covering everything from making the doll’s main body, attaching the stuffing and body components, styling hair and facial expressions, to sewing and finishing clothes.
Follow the author’s detailed instructions and key tips to sew your own adorable doll!
